The new force that is called Five Finger Death Punch came storming into the Towne Ballroom for a sold out show in Buffalo this past Thursday. Led by singer Ivan Moody, this band has made giant strides since the release of their initial CD The Way of the Fist in 2007. The band is currently on tour in support of their sophomore effort, War is the Answer. They opened up the show with a track off the aforementioned CD, Burn it Down. New guitarist Jason Hook had the initial spotlight with an extended guitar solo during the opening track.
The band's stage was complete with machine guns to give it a war type of theme. Ivans microphone stand reminded me of a collaboration between the frontmen of W.A.S.P. (Blackie Lawless) and Korn (Jonathan Davis). It looked like a gun in the holder (where the mic would go) with skulls and ammunition surrounding the rest of the mic stand. It was still very cool nonetheless!
The band tackled Bad Companys Bad Company and made it their own. A very different version, but it suited them well. The song White Knuckles was dedicated, by Ivan, to the devout fans of the band. In fact, Ivan called on two (2) young fans to join him on the stage during the song. He proceeded to swear in front of them and decided to collect money for every time he swore. Fans threw lots of money on stage, including coins. We then saw one of the kids still picking up loose change on his way off the stage after the song. The song where the frontman called on his allegiance of fans, who were in attendance, to come up and shake his hand.
Many of the people followed his request and surfed their way to the front to get a handshake from the singer. This band will be touring with Korn all summer on the Metal Mayhem Festival tour. So, go check them out and see what the buzz is about!
